Flight Ops

Flight Ops in an Oil Dispersant Aircraft

Posing in the front seat of an oil dispersant aircraft. Twin engine King Air aircraft used during the BP Oil Spill of 2010. You probably saw this on the news skimming the waters surface and spewing dispersant out the trailing edge of the wing.
This was a prelude to flying a multi-spectral camera system in another King Air aircraft. This was to search for oil spills from the air. A California/Colorado based company provided the service and aircraft are being contracted to fly the camera system.

Flying over Salisbury, Maryland in mid 2014 with a multi-spectral camera installed in the contract King Air aircraft. This camera needed to have streets and buildings for its software to calibrate properly. Each pixel is geo-tagged with the latitude and longitude of its location. An inertial measurement unit and computer calculate the view of the cameras location in relation to the aircraft position in the sky. This is done using a differential GPS with the inertial measurement unit.
